Smartisan may not be a recognizable name as of yet, probably even in its native China, but it doesn’t mean that they’re not able to produce quality devices. They’ve already released two smartphones: their flagship, premium T1 and the more budget-friendly, mid-tier U1. But now they’re releasing another device, an improved version of the former, of course simply called the T1, and it is more of a minimalist device with slight improvements in specs and UI.
The T2 is considered the first Chinese smartphone with a seamless metallic frame and the whole device has no exposed screws, the SIM tray is hidden, even no power button, and there are no plastic bands visible as it has what you would call a seamless bezel. The volume keys on the right of the device is actually part of the Nano SIM tray and you just need a pin to pop the tray out. You can also choose to make one side of the volume keys for the actual volume and the other side for brightness, depending on your hand preference.
In terms of specs, it’s not something groundbreaking, but just right, It has a 5-inch 1080p LCD and will run on a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 chipset. You’ll have 3GB of RAM and a choice between 16GB or 32GB for internal storage. Camera-wise, it has a 13MP main one with f/2.0 and OIS of course, while the front-facing one is 5MP. So again, not bad, but not so overwhelming as well. When it comes to software, it will run on Smartisan OS 2.5 which is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. It has several customized UI goodies, but in keeping with the minimalist theme as well.
For China residents, the T2 will also come with built-in global data roaming service for 48 countries and regions. If you’re going to the US and UK, you’ll only get charged around $4 per day. As for pricing, the 16G will cost you around $385 and the 32GB will be around $400. But for now, it’s only available in China. No news yet if it will expand to other regions.
