If you’re using the Slack app to update your teams on various deliverables and deadlines or if you have a lot of channels or groups for your separate projects, then you will always welcome updates from the app as the developers are most probably working on making your life easier. For this latest update, version 2.12.0, you get a starred unreads section to keep track of messages you haven’t seen yet, an in-app browser to make it easier to view links, an easier way to add people to already ongoing calls, and other minor changes.
If you belong to a lot of channels on Slack, keeping track of those messages that you haven’t gotten to yet can be a bit of a hassle. So now, you can choose to have a starred unreads section so you can keep all in one place those unread messages from important channels. You can also put it at the top of your channel list so there should be no way for you to miss it. But remember, you have to go to the settings to put it at the top of your channels, otherwise, it’s just somewhere down there and you might miss actually miss it.
The update also brings an in-app browser so that when you click on a link, it won’t go outside the app anymore. You still have the option in the settings to either use this in-app browser or still go to a full browser if you feel like using one. Other updates include the ability to add team members to ongoing calls, but you can only do this if you’re on the paid teams and you can only invite up to fifteen people. There will also be redesigned headers for starting new conversations.
Of course you get the usual bug fixes and improvements with this update. You can already get Slack version 2.12.0 if you go to its Google Play page.
