Owners of the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet K1 should expect a new update to come their way soon, as the SHIELD Software Upgrade 1.3 is now rolling out to NVIDIA’s rebranded gaming tablet. The update brings with it the latest Android security fixes, bumping the device’s security patch level to June 1, 2016, along with other fixes and improvements that NVIDIA has for the device.

According to the NVIDIA support site, Software Upgrade 1.3 just rolled out today, so it might take a while for you to get your notification. The update list says that new features and tweaks abound, including a bump to Android 6.0 Professional Audio standards (which means low latency audio and 7.1 HDMI output, among other things), enhancements & fixes to Vulkan graphics API, some fixes to touch responsiveness, fixes for WiFi & Bluetooth connectivity-related issues, and the option to toggle the Navigation Button location.

The Android security bulletin for the month of June also brings with it some vulnerability fixes, although most of that will be moot point since a lot of the vulnerabilities happen on Qualcomm chipsets. In this case, NVIDIA’s Tegra K1 chipset saves the day for this tablet device.

Given that the update just started rolling out via OTA, it may take some time before you get a notification your device. If you’re feeling impatient, you can manually check for the update by heading to your tablet’s Settings menu, going into the “About Device” section, and mashing the Software Updates button to your heart’s content.
