Google has recently updated the Android Security Bulletin and tells us more about the possible vulnerabilities of your Android device. The latest update delivers new features and updates for the platform, starting with the Nexus firmware images. The over-the-air update (OTA) can now be downloaded from the Google Developer Site. It includes the September 6 Security Patch Levels plus the minor ones before that.
Before this patch, the Android team has prepared other security patch level strings to ensure that all issues associated with the most recent patches (2016-09-01 and 2016-09-05) are addressed. Aside from the Nexus devices, this one can also fix the vulnerabilities that can manifest on most Android devices.
OTA binary image files are now available. You can flash them like flashing the factory images. Note that you can use the image files on your personal Nexus devices only. Use AT YOUR OWN RISK. Google said that they “may not be disassembled, decompiled, reverse engineered, modified or redistributed”.
Other Android devices getting the latest Security Patch include Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, and the BlackBerry PRIV and DTEK50. Only the unlocked S7 and S7 edge are eligible for the update but T-Mobile and Vodafone models will soon receive it. The same Android security patch is also rolling out for the new DTEK50 and Priv phones. BlackBerry has prepared the security updates and will soon be released for ShopBlackBerry, Amazon, and unlocked versions.
