If you like to use an app that throws your video to a different device for mirroring or listen to the audio on YouTube music videos, you may like the idea of being able to turn off the screen backlight to save power. When you turn off the screen backlight many video players stop playback. A new app has launched for rooted devices called Screen Backlight Off.
It does exactly what the name says and will turn off your backlight to save battery power while letting video players continue to work. Again, the app does require a rooted device. To turn the backlight back on when you need it, all you have to do is touch the screen.
There are some issues with certain types of screens. For instance, some OLED/AMOLED screens where the pixels emit light directly may not work. The developer also notes that if you are running MIUI ROM you have to enable show popup window via the system settings.
Users also have to be sure that the app was granted root rights. Another thing users need to check is that no brightness control or other similar app is interfering. The app can be downloaded from Google Play or side loaded.

Please, don’t mention that it costs 0.99 cents, thanks.
