Samsung’s new flagship devices, the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge have been doing really well in the market with better than expected sales. And the numbers prove this as in March of this year, Samsung has overtaken Apple in terms of sales in the US. They were able to capture 28.8% of the market, with Apple close behind at 23% and LG taking up the third place with a respectable 17.1%. It’s a good time to be Samsung, as compared to last year’s problems with sales and distribution of the previous flagship devices.

It was also a good idea for Samsung to have released the new flagships earlier than the previous schedules that they used to follow. This means that it wasn’t overshadowed by erstwhile rival Apple, and in fact, outselled the iPhone 6s, at least in March of this year. They also had great sales strategies, like bundling the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge with the Gear VR headsets, since they were one of the brands that vowed to push virtual reality this year. They also had buy one take one deals with some of the carriers that carried the flagships.

LG is also having a pretty good run with the release of their acclaimed new flagship, the LG G5. The new smartphone was only release late March so the figures for that month don’t really reflect yet the performance of the device yet but if buzz would reflect sales, then April would also be a good month for them. They are looking at good marketing not just for the LG G5 but also for its “friends” and the novelty of having a modular device.

It would be interesting to see Android brands getting good business from the expected slowdown of Apple sales. Let’s see if the next month’s figures would also reflect this.
