Usually, OEMs rely on tech websites and blogs to post hands-on articles and videos when they release their new products. But Samsung is going an unusual route by posting several hands-on videos on their YouTube channel to show off their spanking new Galaxy S6 and S6 edge, specifically the smartphones’ design, hardware and camera. Their aim is obviously to excite the public about the great new features and look of their newest flagship devices.

The first video, a kind of unboxing of both smartphones, is all about the packaging and design. The S6 edge is particularly impressive, especially when he showed off how you can still see your notifications (well, the color coded notifications of your five favorited contacts) even when you’re just seeing the edge of your phone. They also took a quick potshot at erstwhile rival Apple by claiming the glass and metal casing made from aluminum 6013 which is used to make planes and “this stuff will not bend”.

The video which is all about the hardware shows off the faster and higher performance of the new flagship phone. Not only does it boot up faster (Samsung devices are notoriously slow in that aspect) but it also has lower power consumption. It also shows off the Samsung Knox security features, the fast charge aspect that can give you four hours of battery in just 10 minutes, the wireless charging ability, and yes, even the Samsung Pay system.

The third video brags about the HDR and OIS capabilities of both the main camera and the front-facing one. The 16 megapixel rear cam and the 5 megapixel “selfie” one both have an F stop of 1.9, which gives your images better light exposure, so even when you’re in lowlight environments, you can still take great pictures. It also has improved auto-focus and even tracking auto-focus. The pro mode also seems pretty cool since you can make custom settings, just like you would in a DSLR. Based on the three videos, the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge seem pretty nifty devices, with a lot of things to keep Samsung fans happy.

  1. I’m really bummed about the colour exclusivity … I love that blue, but I’m getting the edge. I guess I’ll have to see them in person before I buy.
