After weeks of speculation and even a full leak yesterday, Samsung has finally made the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2016) official. And as expected, the final specs are pretty much the same as what has been going around the rumor mill. The OEM is positioning the tablet as a mobile entertainment gadget and a device that can be shared between family members because of its multi-user capabilities. The specs are decent enough for the basic functions you expect from a tablet, but it still falls in the mid-range level, and its price indicates that as well.
Based on its name, the tablet has a 10.1-inch display with a 1920×1200 pixel resolution. They use the PLS (Plane to Line switching) panel which is similar to the popular IPS one and is Samsung’s proprietary tech. It is powered by an octa-core 1.6GHz processor and it is assumed that it is using the Exynos 7870 even though it is not mentioned in their press release. It has a decent but lowly 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage which can be expanded to 200GB. But it probably will also support the newly-announced EVO Plus 256GB microSD card.
People rarely use the cameras on tablets anyway, so the 8MP main cam and 2MP front-facing one shouldn’t really bother you, unless it affects your video calling. The battery capacity is at 7300mAh so that should last you a decent amount of time. The multi-user mode can let up to eight people create profiles on the tablet. You can even set up Kid 4.0 for the younger members of the family so they can only access age-appropriate content.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2016) will have two variants. The WiFi only version is priced at 289 euros while the LTE version is at 349 euros. There will only be two colors: black and white.
