This year will be remembered as the first time Samsung did away with the flat screen. We were hopeful that there will still be a flat Note but unfortunately, the company decided to go with the “slightly curved” display. With this change, we may no longer see flat Galaxy S phones in the future as the “edge” could be a new standard. The Note 7 may be setting a precedent for the rest of the Galaxy smartphones.
Samsung hasn’t made an official announcement yet, only a hint from the mobile business head Koh Dong-jin. In a recent interview, Dong-jin said, “Samsung has considered that it would make the edge display as the identity of the Galaxy S smartphone lineup if the company can provide consumers differentiated user experience through software and user-friendly functions (for the curved screen).”
The Galaxy Note 7 didn’t arrive with a Note 7 edge or an S7 edge+ plus. This could also mean the next Galaxy S premium flagship device will arrive alone next year. So can we expect a curved Galaxy S8? We’re crossing our fingers.
We’re also guessing Samsung is just testing the waters with the Note 7. It will wait for the market response to the new smartphone at the fact that it’s only one. We’ll see.
