People may have found so many other purposes for using their smartphones, but one that still may be the major reason for having one is to make voice calls. But most devices have such simple and yet tedious calling features. Samsung’s new flagship devices, the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, are attempting to change the way we deal with calling our contacts on our smartphones with the Quick Dial feature. Hopefully, this becomes a default feature for the upcoming (and even older) Samsung devices.
Basically, what happens is that when you long press the home key of those two smartphones, and in just “mere seconds”, you can speak the name of your contact and it will automatically dial that person. You can also use verbal commands like “Please call ______” or “Dial ____________”, although you actually can do that already through Google Now. If you have a lot of contacts or contacts with the same name or contacts with multiple numbers, it will prompt you to select the person or number you’re trying to contact.
Quick Dial actually uses hybrid processing through the servers and so things are much faster, and it claims that in a matter of three seconds, it can already make a phone call for you. But if you have a lot of contacts, it might take just a tiny bit longer. Also, if you use the feature often, it will learn your voice and calling patterns because it uses machine learning. If you decide that you’ve made a mistake when calling, just press x to end the call or the dialing.
Quick Dial has support for 15 languages including English, French, Chinese, and Spanish. It will also be able to find contacts that have symbols in their names as long as you speak the text part of their names. For now, this feature will only be available on the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. No word yet if they will include older models and upcoming ones.
