The Communications and Electronics Security Group (CESG) is part of the information security arm of the UK Government that make sure consumer products are up to par when it comes to data security, and Samsung’s flagships – the Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge, with their KNOX data encryption program – just got certification from CESG as certified secure products.

For those of you who view Samsung’s KNOX security suite as just another obstacle towards gaining root, it actually serves a purpose. Personal data and identity theft are becoming very real issues in a digital world where hackers will pounce on any opening you give them. In this sense, Samsung’s KNOX encryption keeps the data on the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge secure.

Samsung is the first mobile handset vendor to receive this kind of certification in the UK, so it is kind of a big deal for the Korean device manufacturer. The KNOX 2.4 suite built into the devices are now certified to be secure and should be a big come-on for companies to use the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge as official work devices. Dealing with company messaging and accessing work files can be a source of major breaches in information, and KNOX should be able to keep that process secure.

“Mobile security and data confidentiality is of paramount importance to Samsung, and we are delighted that the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge have been recognized as the most secure devices for use by the UK government,” said Graham Long, Vice President for the Enterprise Business Team at Samsung UK & Ireland. The devices are also no slouches performance-wise, so the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge might be premium high-end devices – but you know what you are paying for.
