Putting an end to another series of leaks and rumors, Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy S5 Mini. This is the third in the line of mini devices from Samsung, and similar to what we’ve seen in the past — the Galaxy S5 Mini is a smaller version of the Galaxy S5 with a bit of a step down in terms of some of the specs.
Overall the Galaxy S5 Mini sports the same look and feel as that of the full-sized model. That is to say the Mini model has the same overall look and feel which includes the “unique perforated pattern on the back cover.” The Galaxy S5 Mini also has the same IP67 certification against dust and water as well as the Ultra Power Saving mode and fitness features.
As a recap, the fitness features include the heart rate sensor and S Health integration. The Galaxy S5 Mini also has a fingerprint reader. While we’ve covered some of the similarities between the two models — the hardware specs are where we see the differences. The Galaxy S5 Mini feature set begins with a 4.5-inch HD (1280 x 720) Super AMOLED display and quad-core 1.4GHz processor.
Other specs include 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a microSD memory card slot, 2100 mAh battery, 2.1MP front-facing caera and an 8.0MP rear-facing camera with auto-focus and LED flash. The handset is running Kit Kat and naturally, will also make use of the TouchWiz user interface.
Samsung plans to release the Galaxy S5 Mini beginning in July. The first market to see a release will be Russia, and for now there was mention about how Samsung plans to “expand to global market.” And lastly, the Galaxy S5 Mini will be available in four colors to include Charcoal Black, Shimmery White, Electric Blue and Copper Gold.
