Samsung’s decent mid range Galaxy S Blaze 4G over on T-Mobile started getting a quick over the air software update last night. Samsung’s confirmed it will be receiving Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but that isn’t what were getting today. The update is still Gingerbread but along with fixes it will also prepare the phone for the upcoming ICS update.
As usual, all the information and update details have been provided by T-Mobile at their support forums. They clearly state from the image below that the update is available now OTA as well as Samsung Kies, and that Ice Cream Sandwich will be coming at a later date.
It is sad to see them announcing ICS is “coming soon” when it’s aging by the day and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean has already been released. Hopefully Samsung skips ICS and jumps right to those tasty Jelly Belly’s. As a reminder head to settings > about phone > and check for software updates, or you can connect through USB to a computer and download the update via the Kies program mentioned above. Let us know how the update does and we’ll report back when we hear more about Ice Cream Sandwich.

It says the Galaxy S Blaze 4G does not have NFC but it clearly says on the battery Near Field Communication.
I got the update but what it do
Got the update, broke my root. I’m afraid to root again for fear it will brick the phone. Has anyone had a similar experience?
Ics will bring full nfc functions. Root can be obtained by flashing cwm and using the stock “lf4” rom on xda. OTA updatez will not work after cwm flash. Updating via kies will. OTA updates require stock recovery.
