Here’s another one for the list of features to look for next week on the anticipated announcement of the Samsung Galaxy Note III. A source has revealed that the new phablet will be able to shoot videos in 4K, something which may placate would-be buyers who were greeted by a disappointing news yesterday.

The Galaxy Note III is expected to house top of the line hardware: 5.7-inch Super AMOLED 1080p Full HD display, 2.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, 3 GB of RAM, 3450 mAh battery, and, of course, the Wacom-certified S Pen that gives Samsung‘s Note line its distinct flavor. Unfortunately, it has been said that Samsung will be skipping out on providing Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) to go with its 13 megapixel rear camera. Although it is not yet confirmed, it could deal a blow to the expectations of many, especially those who love using smartphones as life companions.

That discouraging rumor might just be offset by this new one. Samsung’s next phablet will be capable of shooting video in 4K UHD, that is, with a resolution of 3840×2160. That’s quite an impressive claim for a smartphone camera and we’ll have to wait just a few more days to see if it matches reality. We’ll also have to wait and see if the rumored absence of an OIS will handicap the feature.

Still in the realm of multimedia, the Galaxy Note III is also said to be capable of 24 bit/192 kHz Hi-Fi audio playback, surpassing the quality of CDs. No OIS, 4K video, above CD-quality audio, pink color option. The Samsung Galaxy Note III is starting to sound too good to be true. Let’s just hope that least majority of these rumored features will indeed pan out when September 4 comes around.

  1. So I’ll be able to shoot 4k videos …. and play them where? On that 4k TV I can’t afford? I don’t think this capability will be a huge selling feature at this point in time. In a couple of years, when you can actually watch 4k content and the price of 4k hw comes down, then it will be hot. But by then, you would probably have a new phone anyway.

    • Agree, but the side effect of this feature is the camery being able of high data throughput – so maybe 1080p at 60fps, or 720p at even higher frequencies is possible as well – at that is interesting. At least to me it is….

    • in 4k video could let you pick out any frames you like as picture. it could change the way people take photo ..also u can watch it with multiple TVs or zoom in while watching video, provided in more details.Eventough its not a huge selling point for now but this is future proven phones..

    • 4K is 4 times the resolution of HD and encoding has gotten twice as good. So you’re only looking at doubling the filerate at a 20-30Mbps meaning around 400 less times what you said it requires. Anyway lets say you encoding is the same. It’s 4 times as big.

Did you ask for a 250GB internal storage for the past 2 years for the 1080p filming?

  2. This is excellent as I have one great niece just born a week ago another great niece on the way sometime this week. It would be Brilliant to film my darling great niece(s) to my family. 🙂 Love Samsung. They are number One

  3. I dont need 4K when i still have an old tv! I need longer battery life, Retina killer screen, Google version of it and last but not least water/dust resistant!
