Most people just expect the flagship and high-end devices to be the only ones to be updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. But the good news now is that since most of them have already been updated, some OEMs are moving on to the more affordable ones, at least those that can handle the update. For owners of the Galaxy J5 who are living in India, it’s your turn to get Android 6.0.1, the latest of the major update from Google.
So this means you have to make space in your smartphone and you have to make sure that when you finally get the notification that the update has arrived, you need to have stable Wi-Fi connection. The build number J500FXXU1BPF is at 874.15 MB and so it will take some time and patience to download this (unless you have super fast connection). Once installed, you will be able to enjoy the usual Marshmallow treats, like Google Now on Tap, Doze, improved notifications, and other things you’ll discover along the way.
The changelog for the update also includes an updated design for the “new TouchWiz”. But what’s not sure if this TouchWiz is the same one that’s seen on the new 2016 devices like the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, or if it’s just the one with slight changes to the icons. But either way, an improvement on Samsung’s touch interface is better than no improvement at all.
If you have a Galaxy J5 in India, then you’ll receive a notification that the update is ready for you. But if you want to manually check, just go to Settings » About device » Software update and see if you might have missed the notification and it’s there.
