So it has been confirmed by multiple sources over the intarwebs that the Samsung Galaxy S7 – newest flagship out of the Korean gadget giant – will ship with either a Samsung BRITECELL sensor or a Sony IMX260 sensor. This is not a new thing, Samsung did this with the Galaxy S6 line to make sure it can keep up with production. But some people are saying one sensor might be better than the other, which would be rather unfortunate. Some people have put the two sensors to the test and found out there is very little between them.
First up, there is a comparison made by XDA member “NaimC”. The comparison is very detailed, and the tester provided compelling shots. The verdict? Well, not one is clearly better than the other. The sensors will be better than the other in certain specific areas, but not clearly and definitively so. As the tester says, unless you are “pixel peeping” you might not see the differences. For us though, the Samsung BRITECELL sensor might be better in areas that we like, but that’s just us. See for yourself here at the official XDA thread.
A Finnish website, muropaketti.com, also got their hands on different variants of the flagship and did their own tests. They came to the same conclusion – the two camera sensors have nothing between them, except a tiny bit here and there. Even the readers’ reactions are divided – some would prefer Samsung, and some the Sony sensor. This proves that Samsung’s decision has a lot of merit – some people will not be able to tell the difference, and both camera sensors give relatively the same performance at a glance. Check out their test and sample pictures at their post.
You can read in detail what these two tests have said – basically, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference unless you had some time to pore over pixels. From a marketing standpoint, that should be enough. For Android geeks and nerds, they might go with one or the other. Tell us what your pick is.
