When you’re riding a bike and you receive a phone call, of course you do not answer it, even though you’re in a hands-free mode. But the one calling you has no idea that you’re on a bike and will probably make some wild assumptions as to why you didn’t take their call. So to put them at ease, Samsung put the S Bike Mode in the Galaxy J3 (2016) in India. But now they’re also bringing this feature to the other devices in the Galaxy J series.
Basically, what the S Bike Mode does is to send a pre-recorded message to those trying to call a user that is currently on a ride, informing that he/she cannot take their call and will return their call later. So yeah, it’s just like an answering machine but for mobile devices and created especially for those who are riding a two-wheeler. If the caller needs to reach them because of an emergency, they will be told by the machine to press “1” so that the S Bike Mode will be overridden.
Now this feature will also be available for the Galaxy J2, Galaxy J5, and Galaxy J7 in India and users will be able to receive it through a software update. However, these devices don’t have Near-Field Communication (NFC) which the Galaxy J3 has and so users would have to toggle on/off the S Bike Mode whenever they will go on a ride or if they already arrive at their destination.
No word yet if this will eventually be available to other Samsung devices and in other territories as well. This would actually be a pretty good feature especially for countries where riding bikes is a way of commuting for a lot of people.
