Blackberry was pretty popular back in the day (and we mean a few years or so ago) and one of the reasons why is their QWERTY keyboard. And so when rumors came out that a more affordable (sorry Blackberry Priv) smartphone that will have a non-slideable QWERTY keyboard, those still longing for one got pretty excited. There’s still no confirmation of the phone codenamed “Mercury” but it did show up on the benchmarking site Geekbench, so there might be some truth to it.
Its appearance on Geekbench didn’t necessarily add something new to the things we supposedly know about Mercury, but it may confirm some of the specs we’ve already seen from other sources. The phone appears as model BBB100-1, which is a slightly different format from the model of the upcoming DTEK60, which was BBA100-1. It will be running on Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 at 2.02 GHz. It also referred to the memory as 2866MB, so it’s pretty close to the rumored 3GB. And it will also be powered by Android 7.0 Nougat.
Previous rumors also suggested that the Mercury will have a 4.5-inch display, 32GB of internal storage, and a 3400 mAh battery. Camera-wise, there will be an 18MP main camera and an 8MP front-facing shooter. And of course, the most popular rumor is that there will be a physical QWERTY keyboard, but Blackberry fans are wishing it will not be as high-end and expensive as the Priv.
Based on the specs, it should be relatively cheaper. We still don’t know when the official announcement will be. And it will probably be after the DTEK60, which we are still waiting for.
