Canadian mobile carrier Rogers Wireless announced some good news over the weekend which will surely bring hope to their customers – a batch of devices will be getting a bump to Android 7.0 Nougat soon, including Sony’s current flagship, the Xperia X Performance. While most of these devices have undefined dates of upgrade, owners of the Xperia X Performance can expect their update to Nougat in February next year.
It seems that Rogers is very close to updating these new devices to Android Nougat – the list includes the HTC One M9, the LG G5 and the Moto Z. But the carrier did not give out specific dates for these devices, saying instead that the update will come soon. “Making sure these dates are accurate is our top priority. Sometimes, things change beyond our control so all dates listed are subject to change. Thank you for understanding,” says the official statement.
But for the Sony Xperia X Performance, the update is pegged to arrive on February 2017. This will bump the software to Android Nougat together with all of its improvements and new features. As a matter of fact, Rogers is also bringing Voice over LTE (VoLTE) to the said device together with this update. Pretty nice deal right there.
As for other devices like the Samsung Galaxy S6 family and the BlackBerry Priv, there is still no official word on that and these devices continue to languish in Marshmallow land. Hopefully the update for those will roll out in Q1 of 2017.
