Because there’s an increasingly competitive music streaming market, apps have to either reinvent themselves (if they’ve already been in the market for so long) or to constantly add new features in order to keep up with everyone else. Rhapsody probably falls into both categories, and the newest update to the app suggests that it’s not counting itself out of the race, even if there’s so much competition out there. The update brings with it a redesign Android app, as well as several new features that may cause you to give it a second look.
One of the major things they’ve added is a mini-player where you can still control some aspects of the app, even when you’re doing something else in another app. You can swipe through it in order to change tracks and favorite tunes directly from it. It also has a color styling that can match whatever song or album it is that’s playing. The full size player is of course a little flashier, but just as simple so you won’t get too confused when using it.
The updates that you’ll receive are also more personalized, based on the music that you actually listen to or the artists that you indicated are your favorites. You’ll never miss a new release from these artists or the biggies in that genre. Previous updates have brought you Twitter Audio Cards integration (where you can just click on the cards from your Twitter and brings you to your music streaming service of choice) and your very own Music Inbox as well.
The update to Rhapsody also brings these changes to their Napster counterpart (yes apparently, it’s still alive). You probably won’t give up Spotify or whatever music service you prefer, but at least, you may consider it your back-up app of choice.
