As if relationships haven’t been complicated enough by Facebook, with its seen-zoned messages, publicity of relationship statuses, airing of dirty laundry in social media, etc, now it seems that Mark Zuckerberg and company are out to disrupt once again the fine art of online relationships. It seems the “much requested” dislike button is currently already in the works and will come soon, along with another feature where people can see what you’ve already seen or read.

People have been asking for a dislike button, ever since their high school classmate started posting embarrassing pictures of you when you were younger or someone posted a link about people caught mistreating cute puppies. Of course you wouldn’t want to press the like button in these situations, and so the dislike button will come in handy. Founder Zuckerberg confirmed that they are “working on it, and are very close to shipping a test of it.” But it won’t be like the down voting feature of reddit, and it might not even be on the same location as the Like button.

Facebook will also eventually be rolling out a seen feature so your friends will actually see what you’ve seen. But it also won’t be available for all the other features yet. For now, they’re testing it out on the events section so that it would be easier for you to coordinate parties or activities or events that you’re planning. We don’t know how to feel about this yet, especially since it might not become a real thing just yet. But it has the potential to wreak havoc on some friendships, that we know.

Both are still in the testing stages so no need to panic yet. It will be interesting though how Faceboo will be able to execute it and make sure there isn’t any major backlash from users. Or they can just expect lot of seen and dislikes throw at them.

  1. Apart from the messaging service, who actually uses the newsfeed section of Facebook, or actually has a Facebook account anymore?
