If you’ve ever wondered why Viber is such a battery hog (if you didn’t know it yet, yes it is), one user has posted on Reddit that he has discovered why it is so. User iSn0wElite says this is because the default setting on the messaging app keeps your WiFi on even when you have turned this particular connectivity off. But of course there’s a way to fix that thought it would require a few more extra steps than actually just turning off the WiFi.

The reddit user said that he became curious as to why his stats still show that the stats for when his WiFi was on and when he turns it off at night still look the same. And even when it was off, the WiFi details would still show. He first thought it was just a reporting bug on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update but he installed the Android N preview, Viber showed up as one of the main battery hogs. After he uninstalled the app, the Wifi disappeared from the battery stats.

Apparently, Viber has a “wifi-policy” that keeps it on even as you have turned it off. And the funny thing is that even if it is “on”, you still won’t be able to send and receive messages because your WiFi is technically off. But, it is still a battery drain so you would want to turn it off of course.

To save your smartphone’s battery, just head on over to the Settings, General, WiFi, sleep policy and then click on the “choose device settings” part. That should assure you that your WiFi is really off and that there will be no more battery drain, at least from the Viber app.
