We’ve heard of horse racing and even dog racing. But have you heard of yak racing? Apparently, it’s a tradition up in the Tibetan mountains, but probably none or just a few of us will be able to see that in person. Thank goodness there’s a new Android game called Yak Dash: Horns of Glory that will let us experience the joys of yak racing, even if it’s just on our mobile devices.

This 2D sidescroller is simple enough to understand. You race your yak of choice across various mountain ranges. As you urge your yak on, you get to smash obstacles along the way, jump through chasms to avoid falling into the abyss, and discover shortcuts that will get you to the finish line faster (apparently, this is allowed). The game has 17 levels and four “treacherous mountain ranges” namely grassland, icy tundra, dangerous dessert, and perilous volcanic terrain. Good thing the yak is usually accustomed to these conditions, but let’s hope you are too.

In order to gain medals, you would need to beat the mountain flagbearers so you can also unlock more challenging routes. When you get yak coins, you’ll be able to customize your racing yak and even your rider by changing their costume, accessories, and add some abilities. When you collect apples, you’ll be able to quickly run across some hazardous places across the mountains. And who says yaks are slow and heavy? You can do back and front flips in order to get extra speed boosts.

You can also see how you’re doing in this game by looking at the global leaderboards. Yak Dash: Horns of Glory is free to download from the Google Play Store, but with in-app purchases available as well.
