If you get easily bored with apps, especially the simple and straightforward ones, then you probably are looking for an alternative to your smartphone’s default SMS app. There are a lot of alternative ones out there, but some of them require you to pay a bit for more premium features. One of these apps, QKSMS, has had a change of heart and is now offering its entire app, including the ones you had to pay for before, for free.
In a post on his Google+ page, developer Moez Bhatti made the announcement that everything in QKSMS will be for free from now on. So that means all the features that needed to be purchased in-app before can now be accessed by anyone who downloads the app. This includes the ability to respond from a smartwatch running on Android Wear, more than 150 color combinations, automatic night mode, plus the ability to create separate notifications settings per contact.
Bhatti says that this decision stems from the fact that he never really wanted to earn money from making the app, but rather, his priority is to create “the best SMS experience available”. And part of this commitment, aside from the usual bug fixes and improvements, plus adding more features every once in a while, is to make the app totally free, and giving users full access to all features.
But he also said that soon he will be making “the largest and most important announcement in the history of QKSMS”. One commenter suggested that the developer might be releasing the app’s source code as part of his commitment to be 100% free. Or it might be a huge new feature. Let’s wait for the next announcement, if you’re into third-party SMS apps, that is.
