Remember that ‘Nexus Protect‘ program? We weren’t sure what kind of protection that would be but we know it’s definitely a warranty program for a Nexus mobile phone. As it turned out, the program was recently made available for the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P on the Google Store. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t work if you bought the Nexus through Project Fi–at least, when it first launched.
That’s very odd for Google but we guessed there must be some miscommunication or error somewhere down the process. But don’t worry, the tech giant already fixed the issue. Your Project Fi Nexus can now be integrated with your Nexus Protect.
Such warranty program actually differs between Google Store and Project Fi. For replacement or repair, you can deduct $69 for the smaller Nexus 5X and $99 for the Nexus 6P on Project Fi but is priced at $69 and $89 from the Google Store. Past the standard warranty of five year, it may cost the user an extra $5 per month for the Fi version.
Those who purchased the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P from the Project Fi site earlier are eligible to avail of the device protection. Google already extended the eligibility. We’re just not sure until when. If you’re still not convinced, Google is still willing to give a $50 discount off the Nexus 6P or Nexus 5X.
