Back in November 2014, Microsoft opened up a preview for their Office apps for Android tablet users who wanted to get a feel of what it would be like to have Word, Excel, and Powerpoint on their devices. They’ve now announced that they are making it easier for interested tablet users to get access to these preview apps by making it readily available on the Google Play Store.
When they first offered the Microsoft Office suite for Android back in 2013, it was only limited to smartphones and you needed to be an Office 365 subscriber. They later on let users create documents and had basic editing skills, but if you wanted to do more advanced things to your files, you needed to have that Office 365 subscription. By November of 2014, they launched a preview of the Office apps for tablets. You needed to sign up at their website to get access, and then later on changed it by asking users to join their Google + community.
But now, getting the preview apps is much easier as there is no need to sign up for anything anymore. The requirement is that you have an ARM-based tablet that is already running on either KitKat or Lollipop. The screen size needs to be anywhere between 7″ and 10.1″. The preview versions are still unfinished products and Microsoft says they need to have more feedback from users before launching the official versions.
There’s no word yet whether the final official versions would also require you to have an Office 365 subscription. But if you want to check out the preview now, you can head on over to the Google Play Store to get the Word, Excel, and Powerpoint apps now.
