If you’re one of those people who still prefer listening to their digital music as local files on their local music player, instead of the gazillion music streaming apps available out there, then your choices for a music app is pretty limited now. But one of the more popular ones out there is Poweramp, and in preparation for the release of version 3 of the app, the developers have made available the alpha build for those who want to be the ones to try it out first.
The major changes that users can expect from the app are both visual and behind the scenes. They are bringing new visualizations, if you prefer to combine both the aural and visual experience of listening or “seeing” music. But most of the changes are behind the scenes, including a new audio processing engine, the use of 32-bit float sample representation, and the use of 64-bit float internal math, if you understand those kinds of things.
Other improvements and adjustments include reverb with presets, the addition of tempo control, the improvement of StereoX effects, support for more formats like opus, tak, mka, dsf, and dff, and support for 3rd party plugins like DSP/Decoder/Output. The fade ins and fade outs in between songs are now better, and there is now gapless smoothing if you’re listening to gapless tracks.
For now, only ARM-based hardware can download the alpha build, so if your smartphone has an Intel logo on the back, you won’t be able to install it. If you already have PowerAmp installed, you can install the alpha build over version 2, and even your premium purchases will be supported. You can get the APK from the source link.
