A new gadget showed up at the databases of the GeekBench benchmarking app, and people have good reason to believe it’s the new Nexus smartphone coming out of Huawei. If you’ve been living under a rock these past few months, you would not have heard the rumors that Google is partnering with the China-based outfit to come out with a 2015 version of the Nexus 6 smartphone. But we’re pretty sure you’ve heard.

There’s really not much to look at on this database information image that’s circulating the intarwebs today. First up, it says that the device is coded as the “Huawei angler”. Given that Google’s devices have been given fish-y codenames, this sounds about right. Last year’s ginormous Nexus 6 from Motorola was codenamed “shamu” (for the orca whale).

Another detail on here is that it runs an octa-core processor at 1.56Ghz per core – right about where a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 would be, although we can’t really be sure at the moment. It’s supported by 3GB RAM as well. The kicker for all of this is that the gadget purportedly runs Android 6.0 – that’s Android Marshmallow to you – and nobody has Android 6.0 yet, except maybe Huawei as they are developing the new Nexus phone.

The scores on the image are nothing to write home about, but that can be forgiven since this device is still under development. We should be seeing more solid details about this new Nexus smartphone soon. We’re pretty excited though.
