It was only a matter of time before programers, app developers, and hardcore Pokemon GO players figured out a way to harness software and a willing crowd to start mapping out where the rarest Pokemon spawned. And so a lot of these Pokemon GO tracking apps came out to help Pokemon trainers, mostly in the US and in Europe. But Niantic doesn’t like it and calls it “cheating the game.”
Niantic CEO John Hanke said that he was “not a fan” of these Pokemon tracker apps, and warned in a recent interview that players “might find in the future that those things may not work.” That day has arrived it seems, as tracker app Pokevision has shut down its software and said that they were following “Niantic and Nintendo’s wishes.”
In a sense, Hanke is right. These apps kinda shortchanged the “walking around” and “randomly finding a Pokemon” part of the game. But trainers also want some accuracy in the app for finding such Pokemon, and the app just doesn’t give it, so they are forced to go with these Pokemon tracker apps.
Since Pokevision has shut down, other tracker apps are expected to follow. But this is a very trick time for Niantic. Pokemon GO players are dwindling after the initial rush, and a lot of players are voicing out their disappointment with this decision. Can the company afford to lose more of its player base because of this?
