If you’re using a Google device but you’re still not sold on the whole Google Assistant system, the good news is that you actually have other options. Now if you have a Pixel 2 smartphone, the good news is that you can make Amazon’s own Alexa as your default voice assistant. If you think that Alexa’s skills are much more useful and convenient when asking your phone to do tasks and answer questions, then you will now be able to make it work for you.
The first step towards making this happen is to download the Amazon Alexa app of course. Then go to your phone settings and choose the apps & notifications from the menu. Scroll to the bottom of the list and tap on Advanced and go to default apps. Tap on the Assist & voice input tab and then choose assist app which you can find at the top. From there, you can choose whichever service you want, and you will now see Amazon Alexa as one of the options.
Once you’ve set it up, you will have to long press on the home button to launch Alexa. If it’s your first time to use it, you will have to give it some permissions. Other smartphones from Samsung, Sony, and other Android brands can also use Alexa as their default voice assistant but the process may vary per device.
Alexa is the preferred assistant of some because of the thousands of skills available. But some studies say that Google Assistant is the most accurate among the current ones in the market. At least, Pixel 2 owners now have choices as to which assistant to use.
