During CES 2015 earlier this year, we told you about some fantastic aftermarket car radio head units that featured the new Android Auto, including Panasonic’s NEX series. The problem was that nice as these units were, it being a relatively new technology meant that the pricing bordered on “crayzeee”. The new AVH-4100NEX is Pioneer’s cheapest Android Auto radio head, and it retails for a whopping USD$700.
If you have that cash to splurge, we encourage you to have no second thoughts about it – Android Auto is not just a fancy new thing, it’s a safety feature at heart. Plugging your Android device and having it control the radio head with just your voice – and if you can, with your fingers – means a lot to promoting safety. That said, you will have to pay premium at this point if you want this.
Pioneer has three of these units coming out, and the 4100NEX is the cheapest one. The 7100NEX is pegged at USD$1200, while the 8100NEX will set you back USD$1400. Talk about “ouch”. One good thing though, is that these radio units are OS agnostic – meaning they will have iOS’s CarPlay as well if you connect an Apple iOS device to it.
So, you fancy getting one? Look at AndroidCentral’s demo video below and see if it convinces you to splash the cash for this at this point in time.
