We’ve known for a couple of days – from leaks and official sources – that Huawei was going to use lens and camera technology from renowned German manufacturer Leica. We just didn’t know how the execution would look like. Several leaks have also pointed towards a dual-lens configuration. Here’s an image that brings Leica and the dual-lens together.
The image has been going around Weibo (China’s biggest social network) for a bit now, an image of the Huawei P9, specifically showing the rear part of the device. In the image, we see the now familiar metal-clad phone indeed featuring two camera lenses placed side by side on the top left corner of the device’s rear portion. The image also shows a dual-tone LED flash, laser autofocus and the manufacturer’s name – Leica – engraved on the right side.
The rest of the image shows what we already know, a Huawei brand name and the square-shaped fingerprint sensor, just below the camera module, right about where it was on the Huawei-made Nexus 6P. The dual-lens config will probably be used to capture different data of the scene at hand, allowing the user to do re-focusing via an app.
Other leaked specs of the Huawei P9 include a 5.2-inch FullHD (1080p) display up front, a fingerprint sensor, the company’s proprietary Kirin 950 processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage and a 3,900mAh battery.
