If you’ve been using the Alexa integration for your Philips Hue lighting system, you probably would like the latest feature they’re introducing. While it’s already pretty convenient to be able to control your lights by telling your Amazon device ,care of voice assistant Alexa, to turn on or to switch off. Now, you’ll be able to tell it to turn on specific light scenes that you’ve pre-programmed into the system. And also, folks in the UK and Germany will also be able enjoy all of these Alexa integrations.

Hue owners living in North America have already been enjoying the ability to use Alexa to turn the lights on and off and dim them as well. Now, those living in the UK and Germany will also be able to do the same, and even the other new features that are being added in this latest update which “enhances” the integration. If you’ve set up certain “light scenes” and recipes, you will now be able to command Alexa to execute these scenes.

For example, if you’ve set up your Hue lights for a wake up scene, you just tell Alexa to “turn on scene wake-up” and the lights in the room will slowly grow stronger just like an actual sunrise. For some people, that may be more effective (and less intrusive than an actual alarm clock. It can also be a “party scene” using different intensities to simulate a bar or rave concert, depending on what your definition of a party is.

This is actually part of Amazon’s update to Alexa which allows her to trigger some preset smart home scenes for devices that are compatible to Amazon’s voice assistant. The weird thing is that it still won’t be able to change the Hue colors for some reason. Let’s hope future updates will actually be able to do it.
