One of the problems with some users and brands that prevented them from jumping on to the Periscope livestream bandwagon is the fact that after 24 hours, your video disappears. When Facebook Live came on to the scene, then suddenly Twitter’s stand-alone app started to feel threatened. But now, they’re back in fighting form again as they have introduced a feature that will let users keep (or trash) their “unlive” videos.
Meerkat was probably the pioneer in livestream apps and introduced the social media crazy people to a whole new way of doing live posts during events or even while just hanging around somewhere. Then Periscope came onto the scene and because it was a Twitter product, it had more reach and more marketing power. But then, Facebook decided to do their own thing as well, with Facebook Live, and suddenly Periscope feels threatened as well.
So now, they are beta testing a feature that will let users save their finished streams by adding the #Save on the title. The videos will then be found on the user’s profile. If you find that you don’t want to keep it later on, you can still delete them afterwards. But this puts Periscope on par once again with Facebook Live as some people choose the latter because of that particular feature (aside from the fact that Facebook has Twitter beat on number of users alone – 1.6 billion+ to 300 million+, respectively).
It is still however on public beta and CEO Kayvon Beykpour is asking for user feedback regarding this new feature. So if you have strong feelings or opinions about this, do let Periscope know and maybe even give suggestions as to how to build better native control over this feature.
