If you have a Pebble device but you’re suffering from Android Wear envy, you need not “suffer” anymore. The latest firmware update of the wearable brings the compatibility with Android Wear from beta testing to full public release through version 2.3.0 of the Pebble Android app (compatible if your paired Android device is running on 4.0 or higher). You get functionalities that some of their smartwatches don’t even have, but now the Pebble devices will be sporting.
For example, with Pebble, you can have user-defined responses, something that not all Android Wear smartwatches have. You can pre-set up to 5 responses, (from “Sorry, I’m on my way (really)” to “Don’t bother me now, I’m busy”) which you can then choose from when responding to important messages and you can’t really take out your phone at that very moment. If someone is messaging you from Hangouts and you don’t feel like saying a word, then you can say it with emojis (as we often do).
If your friends or contacts are on SquareCash, the latest update will allow you to request money and send cash in reply to requests they send you. Not a lot of people are on this payment system yet, but it’s pretty convenient so it also might be an incentive for people to be on SquareCash. Other changes to the firmware update include automatic app and watchface updates even when your Pebble is idle, fixed WhatsApp issues, as well as the usual bug fixes and stability improvements.
To be able to “make the magic happen,” as they say, you need to update your Pebble device to the latest firmware update (version 2.9) and then get the Pebble Android app (version 2.3.0) from the Google Play Store.
