While other newer smartwatches have been coming out with more advanced features, some people still prefer the “classic” wearable design and functionality of a Pebble. Whether it’s because of its platform flexibility or its ease of use and function, it still has a place in the market amidst the Android Wear and Tizen devices out there. A new firmware update brings more languages and notification options for users, to keep up with their continually growing international base as well.
The version 2.8 of the firmware now supports more languages and characters, not just the English phonetic alphabet. Before, characters like “ß” and “Ż” appear as unknown entities, but now they will show up as they are. So that means over 98% of users can read their messages and notifications on their Pebble smartwatches in their very own language. And they are committed to adding even more languages as they continue to expand to other countries. Currently they are supporting notifications in 80 languages with more to come.
The revamped firmware also brings something that users have been clamoring for: full notification support. So this means that all the apps on your partnered Android smartphone, if it’s running on Jellybean and up, will be able to send you notifications on your wearable. Simply go to the notifications menu where you’ll see the All Apps option. You can choose to select all or select none to choose which apps you want to notify your smartwatch regarding important matters.
To update to the latest firmware, open the Pebble app on your smartphone and go to the select support menu and click on the Update Your Pebble in case it doesn’t automatically begin updating. Some built-in notifications for apps like Gmail or Calendar will not show up in the list of apps so that they won’t give you duplicate alerts.
