The Pantech name may not bring the same response as say Samsung, however it looks like an upcoming release may change that a little bit. The handset is the Pantech Vega Iron and based on what we have been seeing, an announcement is coming soon. But just to make the point, that doesn’t mean the handset will be available next week. The more interesting point here though, the Pantech Vega Iron looks to have specs that will challenge some of the current top smartphone contenders.
By that we mean the Vega Iron may be looking towards the Samsung GALAXY S 4 or HTC One for competition. For now the details are coming by way the Chinese language MyDrivers site, which really just goes to say that we need the official word from Pantech. Just to begin with, the Vega Iron will be launching with a Snapdragon 800 processor. For the comparison, the GALAXY S 4 will have the Snapdragon 600 under the hood.
Other details here touch on the exterior design, which you can get a look at in the above image. As you can see, the Vega Iron looks to have a bit more of a squared-off design. This means it will step away from the rounded corners. The handset is said to measure in at 136.3 x 67.7 x 8.8 mm, which by comparison, the GALAXY S 4 is 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm. The Vega Iron will weigh in at 154 grams.
Basically, we are looking at a handset that is slightly thinner in width and slightly thicker than the GALAXY S 4. Other goodies here look to include a 5-inch display at 1920 x 1080 along with 2GB of RAM, a 2150 mAh battery and 13 megapixel rear-facing camera. All said and done, the handset announcement is expected to come on April 18. In the meantime, make sure to hit that Story Timeline below for a bit more Pantech related coverage.
