Pac-Man is 35 years old. The famous game franchise is celebrating it’s 35th anniversary this year by releasing a new version of the game that stars our dot-eating friend. Bandai Namco has partnered with Crossy Road developer, Hipster Whale, to create a new version of the legendary game. The result? This ‘PAC-MAN 256 – Endless Maze’ which we featured back in May will be an endless running game in 3D.
This new game is an exciting twist to the old Pac-Man we’ve known since we were kids. If you like Crossy Road, you’ll love this because it’s from the same creators who were tapped by Bandai Namco. The old Pac-Man only has cherries and pellets to give him power but this time, the yellow dot has got lasers. He can even turn into a giant, ready to scare Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde.
Watching the trailer alone reminds me of the upcoming movie “Pixels” where Pac-Man is one of the stars. It’s a reinvented Pac-Man game for your tablet or mobile phone where you need to fight ghosts using any of the power ups you have. There’s Giant, Tornado, and Laser among others.
The Glitch super-villain is still part of the game but don’t worry, the new Pac-Man seems to more than ready to take on the enemies starting with the ghosts. To get a special surprise, be prepared to string a 256 combo chopping on those Pac-Dots. Developer Hipster Whale also added controller support on this game so you are free to use it with a gaming accessory or on your NVIDIA SHIELD.
If you grew up playing that game, it means you’re old. Naaah, you’re not THAT old right? But even if you are, who cares?
