What is great about a young and “fearless” company like OnePlus is that you never know what they will do next. And really, probably no one saw their new move coming. Their new product is not a new smartphone or device but rather an iPhone case, built with their popular “Sandstone black” finish. But they probably have a more “sinister” reason for selling a case for non-Android users as the packaging comes with an “invite card”.

The original rear cover of their first ever product, the OnePlus One came in the sandstone black finish, which a lot of people appreciated because of its “rough, sand-like finish” which gave users an extra grip on their device. Since most iPhone 6 users have been complaining that their phone is as slippery as an eel, OnePlus probably thought it’s a good opportunity to reach them through this case.

But probably the true motive (aside from selling a few bucks as well) probably for this marketing move is to invite iOS users over to the dark side, or rather, the Android side. The case comes in a box with a physical invite card, a white plastic card with a scratch off portion, which is a unique code they can use if they want to purchase a OnePlus X. Some of the codes may even be for the limited edition ceramic models or if you’re “super lucky”, as they put it, it may be for a free device.

OnePlus also released a statement saying that “sharing is caring” and they wanted iPhone users to not miss out and to understand what “Never Settle”, the company’s slogan, really means. The iPhone case is selling for just $20, but if this campaign is in any way effective, then OnePlus may see new users joining the fold, if only for the curiosity factor.
