The YouTube channel JerrryRigEverything has done the ultimate sacrifice for its viewers and by putting the latest smartphones under its rigorous torture test. It has scratched, burned, and bent devices for years, all for the sake of telling us which of the new ones in the market may be worthy of our purchase, at least in terms of durability. The latest to undergo this test is the newly announced OnePlus 3, and spoiler alert, it does survive all three tests with almost flying colors.
What differentiates this smartphone from its predecessors is that it is made out of aluminum or it has a unibody build. So even before the test begins, we can probably expect that it is more durable than most. It has a Gorilla Glass 4 display protection and so the screen naturally survived the scratch test, just like the other smartphones that had Gorilla Glass 4 too. The home key, which is made of ceramic, the main camera at the back, the logo embedded in the metal body, the lock and volume rocker, and even the earpiece (which is also made of metal) all passed the scratch test as well.
When it came to the burn test, the OnePlus 3 lasted 14 seconds in front of the open flame before the display started changing its color. However, it was able to recover afterwards and the screen was still usable and cold to the touch. As for the bend test, wherein some devices usually fail, the phone did not break even though the display popped out after much pressure was put on it, trying to snap it into two.
So all in all, the OnePlus 3 survived the torture test and so far has lived up to its reputation. At $400, it is one of the best smartphones you can get for that amount, powered by Snapdragon 820, with a 6GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage, plus the durability which this test has proven so far.
