It looks like our friends over at SlashGear got their hands on a bunch of teardown pictures of the new OnePlus 3, and they’re showing it section by section. Today’s teardown pics are related to replacing the battery on your new flagship killer. Our initial recommendation is, please don’t damage your phone’s battery. But if you ever manage to do this on the OnePlus 3, there is still hope, because the process is pretty straightforward.

First up, you need to gain access to the back of the OnePlus 3. IMPORTANT: remove the SIM tray first before doing anything. Bad things will happen if you don’t.

Popping out the back cover is a challenging task, because the battery of the OnePlus 3 is supposedly non-removable. You’re going to need a pretty specific and specialized screwdriver – a Torx T2-sized bit – to be able to open up the back of the OnePlus 3. It doesn’t come with a standard set, so you might need to checkout a specialized store to get it. After some prying and jabbing, you should be able to get the cover out.

But once you get inside the OnePlus 3, it’s a pretty easy process. There are two connectors of the battery that you need to disconnect, and this is done by dislodging a metal piece that holds the connectors in.

That is done by unscrewing a single Philips screw, and then putting your fingernails to work on the connectors by simply lifting them out. The last process is tugging the battery out. There’s a transparent strip that lets you do that, but you need to push up some pieces of electrical tape that you will want to use when you replace your battery, so be careful with the tapes.

A couple of tugs on the transparent strip should get the battery out, there’s some glue that keeps it in place. There is no information yet on where you can get replacement batteries, as the phone from OnePlus is quite new. But it’s good to know this process is available for you should the need come up.
