Obi Worldphone would have just been another one of those new OEMs trying to make its way into the smartphone market, except for the fact that at its helm is a former Apple CEO, John Sculley. And unlike his previous company, this new one is actually going for the market that’s looking for cheaper handsets that have entry-level specs. Now one of their products, MV1, is making its way to the UK after having debuted in the Middle East, Southeast Asian, and Latin American markets.

The MV1 has a price tag of £99 and so it’s expected that the specs are nothing to sing home about, but it’s pretty decent nonetheless. It has a 5-inch 720p display and is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 212 processor. It has a surprising 2GB RAM, because most in its class only have a 1GB RAM. In terms of internal storage, it’s a typical 16GB which can be expanded to 64G through a microSD card. Camera-wise, it’s just an 8MP main shooter and a 2MP front-facing cam, so you probably won’t use it to take selfies.

It’s in the design of the MV1 where Obi Worldphone asserts its “quirky” personality. They worked together with design studio Ammunition. It has a “floating glass display” which Obi is starting to get known for. It is around 2mm above the main body to give it that floating look. To protect it, it has Gorilla Glass 3, although it still looks pretty vulnerable, if you ask us. It also has soft rounded curves on the bottom and then a sharp, flat top. The body is black or white polycarbonate, but it has a silver, metallic finish.

Another bonus for this device is that it uses the Cyanogen OS 12.1.1, which some prefer now because of the easy personalization. You can now get the MV1 for £99 through the Obi site or through Amazon.
