Remember the SHIELD Tablet K1? This is NVIDIA’s re-packaged, stylus-less variant of the original NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet, one that was still powered by the NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor – a generation older but nonetheless still competent. This middle generation tablet of NVIDIA just recently got its bump to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, along with some feature updates and fixes with a new software update.

This is officially the SHIELD Tablet K1 SOFTWARE UPGRADE 1.2, released yesterday and bringing new goodies to the SHIELD Tablet K1. The tablet is still a gaming device, and it will benefit from the incorporation of the new Vulkan API. Vulkan is evidently the successor of OpenGL as the next gen graphics library for high performance apps, and NVIDIA is bringing it online to its devices, starting with the NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV console a few months back.

The update also fixes the Do Not Disturb function and adds a “double-tap to open” feature for the camera on the home button. Also included in the update are all the security patches for Android 6.0 starting from the last update in February all the way to March 1.

This update should now be rolling out OTA to owners of the SHIELD Tablet K1. No need to get all fidgety and just wait for the update notification to reach you.
