Just a day after it has revealed when it will roll out Android Lollipop for its SHIELD Tablet, NVIDIA has released a system update for its earlier SHIELD Portable handheld. While this update does have some rather important changes, perhaps including the new SHIELD Hub alluded to yesterday, this is not yet the awaited Android 5.0 for the device, whose arrival still remains unknown.

NVIDIA actually only lists four major chaImproves battery drain when SHIELD portable lid is closed

• Improves battery drain when SHIELD portable lid is closed
• Updates the latest SHIELD hub app available on Google Play Store
• Fixes a bug that does not allow videos to be played from Facebook, using Browser or Chrome, or on the YouTube app
• Fixes a bug to enable support for 4K content in Console Modenges, with many more probably lurking underneath, but all of them are all equally important.

Yesterday, NVIDIA made it known that its SHIELD Tablet will be one of the earliest to receive Android Lollipop outside of the Nexus line. It later on also confirmed something that owners of the company’s first SHIELD gaming device have been waiting for, that the Android gaming handheld will also be receiving the update. The only problem is, NVIDIA hasn’t revealed yet when, while the SHIELD Tablet will get the update before the month ends.

Given NVIDIA’s track record at providing timely updates, it shouldn’t take long for the Portable to gets its fair share. What’s more important was the confirmation that it will actually get the update at all. Sadly, the same can’t be said of the Tegra Note 7.

  1. Dammit NVIDIA just release or anounce some special standalone games already, so people like me have a reason and can justify buying your Hardware!

P.S. Hope Nvidia Shield Portable owners get that Android 5.0 update.

      • True but Id like to see more variety in genres out of the SHIELD, im not exactly a big fan of FPS’s. Besides Id like to see SHIELD as a platform for localizations, as I understand the mobile market in Japan is pretty healthy; unfortunately not a lot of those games have been brought over. It would also be nice to see tablet friendly games ported like Visual Novels =3

  2. This comment is to the gentlemen below my comment, first off how could you say such a comment too a wonderful company that’s been in the gaming community for years probably before you were born.I’ve read many interviews about this machine a.k.a project shield respectfully and might I say pacts a heavy hit too your current device which , well shall I say blows any handheld you’ve ever possessed in your greasy Lil dirty hands .
Basicly your about as ignorant as they come.

I’m waiting for my shield portable too arrive in my hands in a day or so,thank you nvidia for a wonderful gaming machine I’m proud too own an nvidia shield and I wouldn’t of spent my money on no other thank you android for what you do either way update or not I STILL OWN AN NVIDIA SHIELD THATS POWERD BY ANDROID YOU ALL MAKE MY DAY BRIGHT .

    SINCERELY, A HAPPY SHIELD OWNER

    • Easy Im not a PC gamer, so as a result my brand association with Nvidia is limited to a small graphics card on my old laptop. I actually dont mind Nvidia entering the gaming hardware space, and I like the idea that they promoted about legitimizing Android gaming. However since they brought the Shield out I havent seen any major aquisition or ports outside of Valve. So yeah I kinda want to see more games before I jump in and pick up a Shield Portable or a super sweet sale to pick up a Shield Tablet 😀

  3. I sincerely hope for a new Shield with Beefier Specs. If only to stave off the temptation of buying one within the next eight months on the cheap.
