Powerbanks and battery extenders have been lifesavers so many times when our smartphones threaten to run out of juice (and the fear of that happening is already a “disease” as we all know). But more than likely, these battery helpers are huge, chunky, and adds to the already weighty tech bag we have with all the chargers and gadgets. So if a new device comes and says it’s the “world’s smallest phone charger”, then of course we’ll be interested. That’s what the Kickstarter project called Nipper says it is.
The Nipper is so small that it can actually fit into your keyring when you’re not using it to power your phone. When it’s time to use it to juice up, you just need to open it, put two double A batteries in between the two magnets and then plug it into your phone. It will work right now with any smartphone that has a micro-USB connector, including Samsung, HTC, LG, Nokia, Kindle Voyager, etc.
If you charge the device for 30 minutes, you boost it up 10%. If you do it a little over an hour, you get 20%. But these figures were tested on an HTC One M7 using a Duracell Ultra AA batteries. The exact percentage and time of charging would probably depend on what battery you use and what smartphone you have. The
The project still hasn’t reached its goal of £6,000 but they’re halfway there. And if you want to have a charger that tiny, you have until September 10 to support this project.
