Google and Samsung are hard at work crushing bugs on the new standard Android device, the Nexus S. The SMS bug was fixed via OTA update just last week, and now it looks as if a fix for the random reboot bug will be coming in a few weeks time.
The official thread for the bug was first denied by a Google employee, only to be reopened later after backlash made the company further investigate. After more closing and opening of the thread, Ry Guy, has confirmed that the update should be ready in one to two weeks.
Hello again everyone,
The initial results of our tests look very promising. At this rate we will most likely be rolling out an OTA to resolve this issue within one to two weeks. We really appreciate your patience as we do our final verifications on this fix before sending it out.
-Ry Guy
Hopefully the update will pass testing and be released to users before the annoyance of random reboots catch up with them. Fingers crossed.

Also worth reporting – a common issue with Home Button and Back Button malfunctions (phantom long press) has been addressed by the same Google rep here:

“Hey all,
Just wanted to let you know that this issue is on our radar and we’ve investigated with Samsung. Look for this to be fixed in an upcoming OTA.

Concur with the reboot issue. It happens once in a blue moon, but really it shouldn’t. Also, agree with Paladin. My 2+ yr old G-1 does a better job with location orientation (maps, navigation etc.). That is lame..
About time, my phone rebooted 4 times yesterday 🙁
There is also the compass/orientation bug in the Nexus S/Gingerbread that i hope will be fixed. So far Google didn’t recognized it as a bug.
Don’t hold your breath !!!!!
Seems like this NEXUS S 3G phone will be useless very soon…
It has roughly 8 serious problems that have not been fixes as of yet…2-18-2011
This phone and OS is really a BETA with many bugs…
The joke is on us the consumers….especially considering the price tag $$$$$ ….
There are 4G phones with rock solid performance being sold this moment for much less than the NEXUS S….and these phones will still be compatible in the future of 4G networks…Not to mention much better phones on the way soon…
The NEXUS S will be a throw away in a few months….and SAMSUNG will loose costumer loyalty and trust….
The 3G networks are not up to speed and are a year overdue in scheduling…and probably will not see much more funding, since the money is now being focused at the 4G networks (actually3.5G) ….HSDPA..
Google is scrubing the internet of anything bad about these phone problems…..
Shmuck
This “Ry Guy” is soo full of it…..
Sounds like an intern raising false hope…..
They just need to keep the BS up about the update going a bit longer …so there is no big huge rush of returned phones…
Keep in mind that you have 30 days to return the phone….
Since sales have fallen off very sharply on this phone….they just need to keep telling us to wait for the update long enough so you can’t return the phone….
Google has the stats on the purchase number and dates…. They are all about marketing and selling your info to 3rd parties…
You only need a team of laywers to read the “TERMS AND CONDITIONS” you agree to everytime you open another app on this phone…
Just another Shmuck
The latest word leaked from SAMSUNG is that the NEXUS S problems are HARDWARE related …
But caused by SOFTWARE…
Since the SOFTWARE is putting more demand on the RF amp and thus the power supply and causing it to current limit and re-set….
