During the buildup to the launch of Google’s 2015 Nexus phones, there were leaks of a Nexus 6P in gold color. It was announced officially during the launch that the special gold edition was to be made available only in Japan through the carrier SoftBank, to the disappointment of US consumers. Now it looks like Google will be bringing the “gold” edition to North American shores.

Gold is a popular color for smartphones in Asia, but has recently entered the US consumer mindset via Apple’s new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6 Plus. Now US consumers are also looking if some of the newer phones come in gold, and that might just be the encouragement Google needed to finally bring the gold Nexus 6P here. Look for it during the Huawei press events at CES 2016.

Also, Google is now planning to sell its phones via brick-and-mortar Best Buy stores – moving away from their usual “online only” stance. Best Buy is known for selling special variants of gadgets and devices, so it is possible that Google will use the opportunity of the gold Nexus 6P launch to partner with Best Buy.

That’s not confirmed yet, of course. But nonetheless, Best Buy will start selling both Nexus phones from Google soon. Tell us when you see this in the Best Buy near you.
