Depending on who you ask or which rumor you believe, we’re just a few hours or days away from Google‘s big reveal of Android 4.4 KitKat and the new Nexus 5 smartphone. But even at the last minute we’re still getting some insider peeks at Google’s upcoming products, this time courtesy of a video from France showcasing what appears to be an early build of both the smartphone and the software.
The device shown in the video closely resembles leaked photos of the LG D820 (or D821), which is believed to be the Nexus 5, especially with the distinctive back cover design. The NOT FOR SALE label on the rear, however, clued us in that this, in fact, might be an earlier iteration of the device. The right side is home to the power button and, oddly, a SIM card slot. Speaker holes are located at the bottom of the device, together with the micro-USB port, which is placed a tad too close to the rear plate. These two factors leave us wondering if it will be possible to remove the back cover and replace the battery at all.
On the software side, the video doesn’t do much to impress. Which is not really surprising considering it is revealed to be running Key Lime Pie, the version of Android that was supposed to come after Jelly Bean, but was later renamed to KitKat. It seems that few, if none at all, of the changes we’ve seen in leaks are present in this version. What is noticeable, however, is how fluid all the visuals and interactions are, which gives us hope that the more polished KitKat version would be as responsive, if not more. In the meantime, you could hit the links below to more or less get an idea of what to expect when the big announcement comes.

The Nexus4 defaults to 5 apps across in the app drawer.
The Nexus5 (with both larger and higher res screen) defaults to 4 across?
I don’t believe that for a second.
