Smart home technology is set to become bigger this year although not without any kinks. Companies and organizations are working hard to bring more products and services and standardize the eco-system. Others like Philips have been working double time to ensure that the technology is made accessible and affordable for more people. The brand is known for products ranging from smartphones to lighting solutions to TVs to tablets and now mobile apps.
The apps are usually developed with compatible products. Since a number of Philips’ bulbs are “smarter” now and can be controlled from apps, there rose a demand for easier management. The Philips Hue gen 2 app boasts of features that will allow a home owner to control the lights in many different ways whether individually, by group, or by room. With the app, you can group the lights so you can manage them at once with the ‘Rooms’ feature.
App also includes ’Scenes’ and ‘Routines’ that allow the user to control the lights to create a new atmosphere based on a color palette or set a schedule for the lights. The idea really is more ways to customize and control the smart lights in ways you never imagined possible.
Philips Hue 2 app features a new home dashboard design so you can see all the lights in one view. You can even turn them all of or on or even dim with one swipe or tap—it’s that convenient. The idea of Philips Hue is to “connect” the lights at home as they become smarter. It’s known as the first connected lighting system in the world.

I wonder who is buying these? I’ve not seen one in my circle which mostly consists of the tech-savvy, early-adopter kind of folk. It’s ridiculously overpriced for what is basically a color changing bulb.
