We’ve been updated to an FCC listing for a new NVIDIA SHIELD TV remote, which is of course for the NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV console. There’s also a listing for a new and redesigned gaming controller for the console, so this is something a lot of you NVIDIA SHILED owners may want to look forward to.

First up, both the new remote and game controller will sport new Bluetooth standards than the current variants of these devices. If it is indeed Bluetooth 4.1, then the biggest (and probably most important) change is that the battery for these devices will last a lot longer. And with Google’s new patent (USPTO Applicaton #: #20160241910) for detecting the presence of a remote in a room, we might just see new features being built into that new NVIDIA SHIELD remote.

The new game controller (and the remote as well) may possibly scratch Wi-Fi Direct connectivity and just rely on Bluetooth. The new game controller also has a slightly new design, slightly looking more like a PlayStation controller than the old one. This new controller will also ditch the headphone jack, probably transitioning people to Bluetooth headphones if ever required.

One downside to this is that it seems the current hardware of the NVIDIA SHIELD may not be able to handle new features, especially if Google pushes the new remote features to the Android TV platform. The NVIDIA SHIELD, being the flagship device in that niche, should be able to handle the new stuff. That may require adding and purchasing new hardware if ever.
